Nigeria Introduces New Telecom Tax

Nigerians will soon be paying more for calls, data, and texts. The tax on telecommunication services will increase to 12.5% as the government announced plans to implement a 5% inclusive excise duty on services rendered by the sector. While it is not a new excise duty, it was not implemented in 2020 when it was placed on the books. It’s not just this tax that is putting pressure on Nigerians and their households. There have been calls for the government to review the taxes, levies, and duties that are in play.
