The Kaduna State government in Northwest Nigeria has debunked media reports that the attack on some communities in the state’s Kajuru Local Government Area was carried out in an aerial fashion by terrorists.
According to an earlier report, a large number of terrorists on motorcycles attacked some communities in Kajuru, killing 25 residents on the previous Sunday, with the death toll rising to 32 on Wednesday.
Locals had claimed that terrorists used helicopters to kill innocent people in aerial attacks.
In response to a media report, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement said a Nigeria Air Force (NAF) helicopter was deployed to the troubled areas and engaged the terrorists.
The statement read, “While the government mourned the gruesome killing and burning of houses in the attacked locations, a report was published suggesting that the victims of the attack were killed by terrorists using a helicopter.
“The Kaduna State government wishes to make a clarification based on reports received since Sunday. The bandits attacked the first two locations and killed 31 citizens. They then headed into Ungwan Maikori, where they killed one person and burnt some houses.”
Aruwan stated that a NAF helicopter had previously scanned the first two locations and discovered burnt houses and property on fire as part of Operation Whirl Punch.
He challenged those peddling stories about a helicopter assisting bandits in the killing of innocent citizens to present facts to the State government.
