Nigeria: Kwara Lawmakers Affirm Non-receipt of Federal Government’s Food Palliatives

Kwara Lawmakers Affirm Non-receipt of Federal Government's Food Palliatives

Members of the National Assembly from Kwara State in north-central Nigeria have emphatically stated that they have not yet received the federal government’s food palliatives.

This clarification came through a jointly signed statement by Senators Salihu Mustapha (Kwara Central), Lola Ashiru (Kwara South), and Sodiq Umar (Kwara North), responding to what they termed an obvious misinformation circulating in some quarters. The misinformation alleged that federal government palliatives had been disbursed to individual legislators and were either being hoarded or diverted.

The lawmakers explained that although the federal government had approved the allocation of food palliatives through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to be distributed to various constituencies via individual members of the National Assembly, the actual disbursement was still pending.

The statement clarified, “For the avoidance of doubt, neither the three Senators, representing Kwara Central, Kwara South and Kwara North nor members of the House of Representatives representing the federal constituencies of the state, have received a single grain of the much talked about FGN food palliatives so far.”

In a commitment to transparency and accountability, the lawmakers urged the public to completely disregard the misinformation circulating in the state. They assured the constituents that they are resolutely committed to providing accurate and timely information regarding the disbursement of the Federal Government food palliatives as soon as they are received from the ministry.
