Residents in several regions of the state have received a new flood alert from the Lagos State Government.
The state administration warned citizens to be cautious of heavy rain between August 14 and August 18 in a statement signed on Tuesday by Lekan Shodeinde, Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources.
Apapa, Badagry, Eti Osa, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Ikoyi, Lagos Island, and Ojo people were advised by the state to get ready for extremely heavy rains that could cause flash floods throughout the rest of the week.
Shodeinde asked all residents of the areas specified in a flood alert advisory issued by the Flood Emergency Warning System (FEWS) Central Hub of the Federal Ministry of the Environment to be cautious and aware of rainfalls during and after the flood.
Additionally, he warned people living in flood plains and low-lying areas in Lagos to prepare to shift higher ground until the rains stopped.
He emphasised that pedestrians and drivers should avoid wading through floods, especially during rainstorms since they run the risk of being swept away by the force of the water.
He continued by saying that the warning is now important to prevent the avoidable loss of lives and damage to property that typically results from such situations.
