Nigeria Launches Investigation into Corruption Allegations in Correctional Service

The Nigerian government has established an independent investigative panel to address allegations of corruption and serious breaches of standard operating procedures within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

During the inauguration of the committee on Monday in Abuja, Interior Minister Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo highlighted the need for the panel to investigate claims that some correctional service personnel provided alternative accommodation for convicted cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

The minister underscored the importance of this panel in restoring transparency and accountability within the correctional service.

This initiative follows the minister’s earlier decision to suspend several officers responsible for the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos State, amid allegations of misconduct related to the Bobrisky case.
