An epicentre of more than a decade-long jihadist insurgency, Maiduguri serves as the hub for the responses to the humanitarian crisis in the northeast region.

Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State , has been submerged by flooding following the collapse of the Alau Dam on Tuesday morning.
According to the United Nations Human Rights Refugee Council (UNHCR ) and residents of the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), the flood is being described as the worst the city has experienced since 1994.
Many residents have been forced to flee their homes and seek refuge on higher ground to avoid being trapped by the rising waters.
Several public facilities, including the Shehu’s Palace, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Sanda Kyarimi Park Zoo, have been submerged.
The flood also breached a prison wall in the Customs area, leading to reports of some inmates drowning while others escaped.
