In a significant move to advance Nigeria’s digital landscape, MainOne, a leading connectivity and data center solutions provider, has forged a strategic partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Government.
Speaking at a ceremony to receive the 2Africa submarine fibre optic cable from MainOne Company at Qua Iboe beach, Ibeno Local Government Area, the state governor Pastor Umo Eno remarked, “It is fitting that MainOne has chosen to inaugurate this landmark project here in Akwa Ibom. We are grateful for the opportunities it brings and pledge our full support.”
Governor Eno hailed the partnership as a monumental project with far-reaching implications and expressed his enthusiasm for the 45,000km submarine cable linking Akwa Ibom, Nigeria’s South-South region, with Europe, Asia, and other African regions via the Atlantic Ocean. He hailed it as a significant step towards positioning the state as a hub for ICT innovation and reaping economic and technological benefits worldwide.
The Governor emphasised the strategic importance of the submarine cable in advancing the technology agenda of his administration, part of the ARISE Agenda, the state’s economic blueprint. He urged the youth to seize the opportunity provided by the infrastructure to explore their potential in information and communication technology.
Highlighting the significance of high-speed broadband infrastructure in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Eno said, “The ICT sector holds special importance for us. This infrastructure aligns with our vision for economic growth and empowers our youth to work and earn from home.”
Governor Eno pledged to facilitate MainOne Company’s operations on the state’s waterways, ensuring a conducive environment for their activities.
