In a week of coordinated airstrikes on the outskirts of Gwoza local government area in Borno State, the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has killed over 100 Boko Haram terrorists
The precise intelligence-led airstrikes conducted by the air component, under “Operation Warun 3”, between June 9 and June 11, 2023, in Grazah and Wa-Jahoda, on the fringes of the Mandara Mountains in Gwoza local government area resulted in the obliteration of the terrorists.
The first bombings were conducted in Grazah, a location controlled by the Boko Haram terrorists that also functioned as their meeting place, according to a report acquired by Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region.
Sources on the ground reported that the Super Tucano Aircraft made an accurate hit, killing several Boko Haram unit commanders and high-value fighters and badly injuring many more who managed to flee.
As a result, on June 11, the air component conducted a follow-up operation in Wa-Jahode. This strike has been deemed to be extremely successful as several further terrorists were neutralised, with reports of additional terrorists being in serious condition.
The air component also destroyed many structures which served as a haven to the terrorists.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall IO Amao, launched the intensive offensive Air operation nicknamed: “Operation Warun 3”, across all the theatres of operation with the Air Component of “Operation Hadin Kai” as the main focus.
The aim is to soften ground for the surface forces to exploit with a view to facilitating speedy elimination of terrorists and bandits across the country.
