Former presidential aspirant and foremost journalist Dele Momodu has said that for Nigeria to move forward, it requires a visionary leader with a masterplan and a great team that will implement the government’s strategy, efficiently.
Momodu was speaking during an exclusive interview with Newscentral TV’s Chief Executive Officer, Kayode Akintemi on Tuesday.
“From his first day in office, a leader, supported by his Vice President, must pick the best team possible to play various roles in driving the government’s agenda.”
Noting how he remembered the names of members of successive federal cabinets in the past, he added that the current situation is a stark contrast, and very few people, including himself, will be able to name up to a dozen members of the current administration.
“When we were growing up, we knew our leaders, the ministers, even the commissioners because they were stars in their own right, but today, it is the dregs of society, what Frantz Fanon called the wretched of the earth, that we push forward because it is now all about political compensation.”
Momodu stressed that leadership must be devoid of egocentrism but be intentional and strategic, and square pegs must be put in square holes.
“We need leaders who are thinking first about legacy, not about their re-election or how they plan to occupy another position.”
On his letter to President Tinubu, Momodu said, “As his friend and brother, I want it to be on record that while everyone kept quiet, I warned him of the danger ahead.”
He urged President Tinubu not to turn his administration into a dictatorship, reminding him how they both fought the military regime.
On the impending protests, Dele Momodu stressed that it was the fundamental right of every Nigerian to voice their frustrations, acknowledging that he and President Tinubu protested against the military regime. He, however, urged the protesters to ensure their march remained peaceful.
