Nigeria: NRC Resumes Kaduna-Abuja Train Services

Nigeria: NRC Resumes Kaduna-Abuja Train Services (News Central TV)

Four days after suspending operations on the Kaduna-Abuja route, the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) management has restored train service on that route.

At precisely 7m on Tuesday, the first train with a few passengers left the Rigasa train station in Kaduna towards Abuja.

Following the derailment of an Abuja-bound train at Kubwa in the country’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on the same day, NRC on Friday suspended operations on the Kaduna-Abuja route.

When the train service was suspended for the brief while it lasted, some of the passengers who were pleased to see it resumed complained that their plans had been disturbed.

However, they urged NRC management to take all necessary precautions to prevent a repeat of the train derailment or any other security lapse.

One passenger, Mahmood Bala, told newsmen that the resumed services were commendable.

“It’s good but the truth of the matter is that the government should be conscious about the security of not only the passengers but the security situation of the country.

“The government should take enough measures in providing safety and security,” he said.

Another commuter, Ayuba Mohammed, bemoaned the negative impact of the derailment of the train, saying, “Definitely, it would have destabilised a lot of programmes or businesses for a lot of people.

“One is happy that it has resumed, [but] the government should be conscious about [passengers’] safety and stop things like that from happening. It disrupts a lot of things you would have planned because you are probably used to going with the train.”
