The Federal Government of Nigeria has mandated all Federal Tertiary Institutions with approved recruitment waivers to publicly advertise job vacancies, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and fairness in the hiring process.

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, issued the directive through a statement released by the ministry’s Director of Press, Boriowo Folasade. He instructed that all vacancies must be published in at least one national daily newspaper, on the institution’s official website, and in other relevant academic or professional publications.

The move is designed to create a transparent and competitive recruitment environment that gives all qualified Nigerians an equal chance to apply for positions within the higher education sector.

“This follows the waivers granted to Federal Tertiary Institutions based on submissions made by these institutions concerning their manpower requirements, in line with the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing the capacity of our higher education institutions.”

Dr Alausa also reminded institutions to forward their recruitment needs to the Ministry for vetting by the Committee on Waiver and Recruitment, ensuring that all hiring is done within regulated frameworks. He warned that mechanisms are already in place to monitor compliance, and institutions that disregard the directive risk facing sanctions.

The Ministry, he said, remains steadfast in its efforts to uphold integrity and equity in Nigeria’s higher education system, ensuring that recruitment practices reflect the principles of merit, openness, and accountability.
