The Nigeria Police Force has arrested more than 124 suspects during separate raids in the country’s capital, Abuja.
This was disclosed by the spokesperson of the FCT Police, SP Josephine Adeh, on Wednesday.
The suspects were arrested during the raids, which were executed between Sunday and Tuesday in Karshi, Mmappe, Kabusa, Dutse Alhaji, Nyanya, Utako, and Iddo areas of the FCT, and other areas.
According to the statement by SP Adeh, massive raids were made during the day and at night at the heat spots of various areas across the territory.
She said the raids are indications of the Police Force’s renewed effort to clear off criminals from the Federal Capital Territory.
Adeh said, “In the last few weeks, the CP has been working effortlessly to ensure the FCT is relatively peaceful for lawful citizens. There have been constant raids at night and day of suspicious places and uncomplicated buildings in our effort to wipe out criminals out of FCT.”
Stating a breakdown of the number of suspects arrested by the police, she stated that a total of 124 suspects were arrested in the yet-to-be completed operations.
The CP also noted that the suspected criminals are presently being screened and interrogated, and would be charged to court afterwards.
Adeh said, “So far, we have arrested about 124. On Sunday, 37 were arrested at Iddo, Utako, Mpape, and Nyanya. Dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from them. On Monday, 46 suspects were arrested at criminal hotspots in Kabusa, Karashi, and Nyanya. On Tuesday, 41 suspects were arrested in Dutse Alhaji, Kabusa, Nyanya and Mpape.
“The suspects are currently under screening and interrogation at various divisions after which they will be charged to court.”
In April, 29 persons, including male adults, women, and children, were kidnapped in Yewuti village, the hometown of Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti, the recently-retired vice chairman of the Kwali Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, Nigeria.
Two women, Zainab Umar and Aisha Zubairu, allegedly managed to flee from the captors while being led into a forest.
Among those kidnapped were Idris Mohammed, Abdullahi Zubairu, Sani S. Magani, Peter Modu, Ibrahim Mamman, Yellow Abdulrasheed, Musa Suleiman, Simbiya Ishaku, Sumaiya Ibrahim, Muktari Yunusa and Mohammed Yeluwa and Rahmat Shagari.
