Over 50 protesters, including women, have been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command following the ‘End Bad Governance Protest’ in the state capital.

Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Muhammad, reported that the arrests were made due to breaches of public order and unlawful assembly. “Fifty-two individuals were detained for being violent and unruly. They disrupted public peace and did not adhere to our agreed-upon arrangements,” he explained.

Muhammad also mentioned that one of his officers was injured during the unrest. He accused the protesters of engaging in phone theft and property destruction across the city.

According to Muhammad, the protesters, who numbered over 3,000, regrouped after being dispersed and attempted to force their way to the Government House. “They were throwing stones at our officers, injuring some of them. We had to act swiftly to control the situation. The governor would have addressed them if they had remained orderly.”

He assured that the police acted professionally and did not cause any fatalities. “The protesters used women and children as shields, but we managed to control and subdue the situation,” CP Muhammad added.
