Nigeria Records Daily Highest Cases Of COVID-19, 7 Deaths

On Monday, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 1204 new COVID-19 infections in the country.

It is the highest number of cases recorded in a single day since the country announced its first case in February.

The agency also announced that 7 deaths were recorded on the same day.

At least one case was recorded in 20 states of the country as Nigeria keeps battling to contain a rapid spread. The country is believed to be facing a second wave of the global pandemic.

More than half of the cases announced on Monday were reported in Lagos, Nigeria’s most populous city and commercial epicentre. The state reported 654 cases, followed by Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja which recorded 200 cases.

Plateau State, in the North Central of the country recorded 60 cases. Others were Kaduna, Kano, Rivers, Edo, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Bauchi, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Ogun, Delta, Abia, Benue, Imo, Borno, Sokoto, and Osun States.

With Monday’s cases, Nigeria now has 91,351 confirmed cases with 1,318 deaths, placing the country’s case fatality rate at 1.44%.

Lagos has more than a third of Nigeria’s total number of cases.
