The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the Federal Government, successfully repatriated 155 Nigerian irregular migrants who were stranded across various regions of Libya. This significant development was officially announced by the IOM in a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos.
The returnees made their arrival at the Cargo Wing of Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos. They arrived late Tuesday evening aboard an Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800, bearing the registration number 5A-DMG. Among the 155 returnees, there were 125 females, 22 males, and eight infants.
Notably, a collaborative effort involving various agencies was put into action. The National Emergency Management Agency, Port Health Service, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria were all present at the airport to receive the returnees. Their joint efforts ensured the safe return of these stranded migrants.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to address the challenges faced by irregular migrants and to provide support for their safe return to Nigeria. The IOM, working hand in hand with the Federal Government, continues to strive towards the betterment of the lives of Nigerian citisens abroad who find themselves in difficult circumstances.
