A bill seeking to increase the police retirement age from 60 to 65 years has on Tuesday, passed the second reading.
The bill also seeks to raise the service year of a policeman from 35 to 40 years.
If passed, Nigerian policemen will retire at age 65 or when he has spent 40 years in service.
Jointly sponsored by the Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, and the Chairman House Committee on Police Affairs, Abubakar Yalleman, the Police Act Amendment Bill is aimed at improving the experience and expertise of the workforce.
The lawmakers said the bill would improve performance and job satisfaction and would address the shortage of experienced police personnel and related matters.
