Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Command, said it arrested and prosecuted a total of 507 motorists for traffic offences in the state from July to November 2019.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the sector’s Public Education Officer, Olabisi Sonusi, the Lagos State’s Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Hyginus Omeje said the offenders were prosecuted at the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court.
He further disclosed that 452 of the 507 motorists prosecuted were convicted by the Mobile court while 44 were discharged and warned to be safety conscious while 11 had their cases adjourned.
The offender-drivers were arrested for different offences like driving without valid driver’s licence, tyre rules violation, dangerous driving, driving with expired vehicle papers, among other offences.
According to Omeje, the mobile court was necessary to checkmate the excesses of drivers on the highways. He added that it would create a safer motoring environment.
The Commander concluded by advising motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations in the state.
