The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 22 suspected hoodlums responsible for the violence that erupted at Iyana Iba area, Lagos State.

The suspects, who engaged in a bloody supremacy battle with other Transport Union Workers on Wednesday September 28, sent commuters and motorists scampering for safety, were apprehended after the Lagos state police command swung into action.

The incident prompted the Lagos State Government to suspend the activities of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, after three persons were allegedly killed and several others injured.

The RTEAN went on to suspend one of its Lagos State Vice Chairmen, Oluwaseyi Bamgbose, popularly known as ‘Student’ for instigating unrest in the Association.

Speaking about the suspension, Alhaji Musa Mohammed, the union’s national president, said in a statement released in Lagos through Alhaji Abdulrahman Amusan, the union’s national publicity secretary, that recent Bamgbose actions and movements had the potential to incite violence within the association’s Lagos State Council.

Bamgbose had earlier organised an illegal protest at Alausa Secretariat with a few unhappy elements in his attempts to incite violence and discontent in the organisation, according to Muhammed, who is also the Lagos State Chairman of RTEAN.

Muhammad claimed that Bamgbose’s plan was to create enough commotion so that the State Government would view the peaceful group as being uncoordinated and impose a ban on its activities.
