15 kidnap victims have been rescued by the Zamfara State Police Command from the Magazu Forest.
The police public relations officer SP Mohammed Shehu told reporters at the police command headquarters in Gusau, the state capital of Zamfara, that there were seven (7) women, six (6) men, and two (2) children among the victims.
“They were rescued unconditionally,” SP Shehu stressed.
He claims that on Monday, armed gunmen blocked the highway and kidnapped travelers using public transportation along the Gusau-Tsafe road.
He also said that the rescue effort was carried out as a result of intelligence information on the victims’ kidnapping.
Speaking further on the development, SP Shehu said “In the course of debriefing, the victims informed the Police that they were blocked and abducted by large number of bandits terrorist along Yankara- Tsafe – Gusau road by Magazu village while coming back from Abuja and Kaduna heading to Gusau, Sokoto and Birni Kebbi respectively.”
Following a medical examination at the police clinic, the victims were debriefed by police officers before being reunited with their families or other close relations.
The police commissioner, CP Kolo Yusuf, congratulated the victims who had been freed and promised the populace that the police would continue to be committed to supporting the ongoing search effort in order to free the other captive victims.
