On Monday morning, suspected Boko Haram terrorists ambushed a convoy of military personnel and members of the Civilian Joint Tasks Force, killing the CJTF Chairman, Alhaji Bukar Mandama, as well as other vigilantes in Borno state, Northeast Nigeria.
Another CJTF member who had been shot was taken away from the site and is now being treated at the State Specialists Hospital in Maiduguri.
Unconfirmed reports also suggested that some security personnel were hurt during the ambush. Sources say Mandama, the chairman of the vigilante group, was among the five people killed in the convoy.
According to Intelligence gathered by News Central, on Sunday, some locals saw a Boko Haram convoy of two cars and motorcycles heading towards the Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) that was being built on the outskirts of the town with the intention of wreaking havoc.
In response to this situation, the military authorities in Gubio mobilised and deployed troops along with some members of the CJTF to ensure the facility had adequate security.
Confirming the incident, the Executive Chairman of Gubio Council, Alhaji Bukar Sulum Zowo said, “we woke up with a sad news this morning as Boko Haram killed our CJTF Chairman, Alhaji Mandama and other member in a road ambush.”
On Monday at the State Specialists Hospital in Maiduguri, the Chairman revealed this to our correspondent while extending assistance for the payment of the injured victim’s medical bills at the Accident and Emergency Unit.
He asked God to offer the departed’s souls eternal peace and hoped those wounded by gunfire a speedy recovery.
Recall that in March of this year, additional terrorists broke into Gubio town and kidnapped Dr. Bulama, the hospital’s principal medical officer, who was still being held captive as of the time of publication.
