Ahead of Nigeria’s general elections slated for February 25, the Nigerian National Universities Commission (NUC) has ordered the country’s universities to close from February 22 to March 14.

The decision follows an order from the Federal Ministry of Education through the Education Minister Adamu Adamu, over concerns about the safety and security of staff and students during the poll.

There has been concern about whether the elections will be able to go ahead as planned on February 25 because of ongoing insecurity challenges in the country.

However, the head of the electoral commission has insisted that the elections will hold as scheduled.
