Nigeria: Zamfara Government Provides Free Fertiliser to Enhance Food Security

Zamfara Government Provides Free Fertiliser to Enhance Food Security

The Zamfara State government has begun distributing 6,200 bags of fertiliser free of charge to farmers in the local government areas of Anka, Bukkuyum, and Gummi. This initiative is part of Governor Dauda Lawal’s broader agricultural policy, aimed at boosting food security and enhancing agricultural production across the state.

The distribution, which follows the governor’s recent launch of 135 trucks of fertiliser for the state, took place in the towns of Gummi, Anka, and Bukkuyum. Speaking at the event, Mustafa Gado-Anka, Special Adviser to the governor on Community Engagement, emphasised that the fertiliser is being provided at no cost to farmers due to the current economic difficulties faced by many in the country.

“This is part of Gov. Dauda Lawal administration’s policies to enhance agricultural production as well as boost food security in the state. As directed by the governor, the commodity should be distributed to the farmers free of charge,” Gado-Anka urged. He also mentioned that trusted local figures have been involved to ensure the fertiliser reaches genuine farmers at the grassroots level.

He further noted that this distribution covers the rainy season, with another round of free fertiliser distribution planned for the dry season in three months’ time.

The Emir of Anka and Chairman of the Zamfara Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmed, represented by the District Head of Yarimawa, Sani Sulaiman, praised the initiative, recognising its potential to significantly improve food production in the region.
