Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 64th independence anniversary while acknowledging the challenges faced on its journey to nationhood.
Despite these hurdles, Fintiri noted that Nigeria has made significant progress, particularly since the return to democratic governance 24 years ago.
The governor emphasised the need for self-reflection and collective responsibility in addressing the nation’s issues, stressing that true progress comes from owning up to mistakes and moving away from a victim mentality.
“Some of these challenges are within our power to resolve, but we can only succeed if we are courageous and honest enough to accept responsibility for our actions and stop blaming others,” Fintiri said.
He assured the people of Adamawa that his administration remains committed to inclusive governance, ensuring that every citizen benefits from its policies and programs.
“I applaud you all for reaching this milestone, for overcoming obstacles, and for restoring dignity through democracy. While 64 years is a brief period for a nation, it has given us time to make meaningful changes,” he added.
Fintiri expressed regret over the impact of unpatriotic acts and injustice, which he said have hindered Nigeria’s progress. He urged citizens to take responsibility for the nation’s future and reject a mindset of victimhood.
“My administration will continue to empower the people of Adamawa through investments in human capital and infrastructure, boosting the economy, and improving living standards,” he stated.
Addressing the current economic hardships, Fintiri expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future. “I see hope for Nigeria. Let’s unite and work together to deliver good governance and the dividends of democracy,” he said.

Fintiri also commended security agencies for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace in Adamawa, stressing that his administration’s peace initiatives aim to promote harmony and mutual understanding among residents.
