In the Delta North District of Delta State, Chinedu Nwoko (also known as Ned Nwoko) was proclaimed the winner of the senatorial election on Monday.

He ran for office on the People’s Democratic Party ticket (PDP). Kennedy Kanma of the Labour Party (LP), who received 86,121 votes, and Peter Nwaoboshi of the All Progressives Congress, who received 36,816 votes, were both defeated by Nwoko, who received 92,514 votes overall. The district’s current senator is Mr. Nwaoboshi.

The results were announced by the returning officer, Josephine Anene-Okeakwa, at the INEC collation facility in Asaba’s Oshimili South Local Government Area.

Ndudi Elumelu, the PDP candidate for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency’s seat and the minority leader in the House of Representatives, lost to Ngozi Okolie of the LP.

Mr. Elumelu, who represents Oshimili North/South/Aniocha North/South, ran for re-election to the House of Representatives for a fourth time.

Ms. Okolie, who ran for the position in 2015 under the banner of the Democratic Peoples Party, won with a total of 53,879 votes, defeating Elumelu with 33,456 votes and Tony Nwaka of the APC with 11,712 votes.

In the collation centre in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Asaba, the results were announced by the returning officer, Kenneth Ibe, who said Okolie had won after meeting the qualifications.

In an interview, Pascal Adigwe, Director-General of the Ned Nwoko Campaign Council, praised INEC for the smooth and peaceful election and praised the electioneering process.

He acknowledged that the race was hotly contested and thanked God that Nwoko had won.
