The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully carried out a major operation in Niger State, eliminating dozens of terrorists and destroying their logistics base in Alawa Forest, Shiroro Local Government Area.
The operation, which lasted three days, was part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
Dubbed “KONAN DAJI,” the operation was launched following detailed intelligence reports and aerial surveillance, which indicated the presence of heavily armed terrorists in the area.
These terrorists were believed to be behind a deadly series of IED attacks in Bassa, Shiroro LGA, on December 19, 2024, which caused significant casualties and fear among local communities.
NAF fighter jets executed precise airstrikes on identified terrorist hideouts in Alawa Forest, leading to several secondary explosions, suggesting the destruction of critical weapons and ammunition supplies.
This decisive action has significantly disrupted the terrorists’ operations in the region, making the area uninhabitable for their activities.
The successful operation is part of the broader counter-terrorism campaign under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which aims to rid the region of criminal elements.
The NAF, in coordination with ground forces, remains dedicated to clearing the Alawa Forest and surrounding areas to ensure long-term peace and security for the people of Niger State.
Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, affirmed the military’s commitment to national security, noting that operations like KONAN DAJI reinforce the NAF’s determination to protect Nigerian citizens from the threats posed by terrorism and other forms of violence.
