Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has officially commissioned the newly constructed Infantry Model Command Day Secondary School (IMCDSC) and 17 blocks of accommodation for soldiers and their families at Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, February 22, 2025, by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the projects were inaugurated on Friday, February 21, 2025, marking the conclusion of the COAS’s five-day operational tour of the North West theatre of operations.
Speaking at the event, General Oluyede revealed that he had championed the initiation of the projects during his tenure as Corps Commander Infantry, recognising gaps in post-primary education and the acute shortage of accommodation in the cantonment.

He expressed confidence that the new school would produce future professionals who would contribute positively to national development.
He also emphasised that the educational infrastructure would meet the needs of soldiers’ children, reinforcing his ‘Soldier First’ mantra.
General Oluyede urged the students to excel academically, stay disciplined, and explore career paths that would add value to national development.
Similarly, the Commander of the Infantry Corps, Major General Abdulkalifa Ibrahim, described the projects as a significant legacy that would enhance education quality for military families.
He expressed gratitude to the COAS for the initiative and called on school management, staff, students, and soldiers’ families to maintain and wisely utilise the facilities.
The commissioning of these projects marks another milestone in the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving soldiers’ welfare through education and housing infrastructure.
