Nigerian Army Decorates Newly Promoted Officers in Sokoto State

Major General Godwin Mutkut, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division, Nigerian Army Headquarters, has decorated two newly promoted officers at a ceremony held at the Officers Mess of Giginya Barracks in Sokoto State.

The officers, elevated from the rank of Colonel to Brigadier General in the recently released 2023 promotion, are General Abdullahi Ajadi Babatunde, Acting Commander 8 Division Intelligence Brigade, and Brigadier General Emmanuel Jonah, Acting Commander 8 Division Finance and Accounts.

During the ceremony, General Mutkut urged the newly decorated senior officers to align with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, to effectively fulfil their command responsibilities. He congratulated the new generals and emphasised the need for them to reflect on the honour bestowed upon them and the responsibilities that come with their new ranks.

General Mutkut reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the welfare of troops in the division and encouraged the newly promoted officers to embody the core values of the Nigerian Army as they assume their added responsibilities.

Brigadier General Abdullahi Babatunde, speaking on behalf of the newly decorated generals, expressed gratitude to the COAS for recognising their merit and promoting them. He also thanked the GOC and other senior officers for their support and cooperation, which contributed to their elevation in the Nigerian Army.
