The Nigerian Army has appointed Lieutenant Colonel Onyinyechi Anele as the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, marking a historic milestone as she becomes the first woman to hold the position.

Anele, a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and a member of Direct Regular Course 15, will assume the role on April 22, 2025. She succeeds Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, who has been reassigned to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.

Before this appointment, Lt. Col. Anele completed a six-month strategic training at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre and was deployed to the Department of Civil-Military Relations. She has also served as the Public Relations Officer in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.

Until her recent elevation, she was actively serving in the Department of Civil-Military Relations.
