Nigerian athletes Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume showcased outstanding performances at prestigious events in Lievin, France, and Houston, United States.
Amusan delivered an impressive performance, clocking a time of 7.83 seconds to clinch victory in the women’s 60-metre hurdles at the Meeting Lievin in France. She outpaced competitors Laeticia Bapte, who posted a Season’s Best (SB) of 7.97 seconds, and Sarah Lavin with a time of 7.98 seconds.
Meanwhile, Brume achieved a Season’s Best (SB) leap of 6.84 metres, securing first place in the women’s long jump at the Howie Ryan Invitational in Houston. Her remarkable performance elevated her to the fourth position on the 2024 season top list. Brume dominated the competition, surpassing her opponents by nearly a metre, with Genesis Griffin finishing second with a distance of 5.91 metres.
With these victories, Nigeria boasts two leading women athletes in the global Long Jump rankings, holding the first and fourth positions on the world stage.
