The Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), in Ikeja, Lagos, was the scene of a drug arrest by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) of a Saudi-bound widow who had cocaine hidden in her shoes.
This was announced in a statement on Sunday in Abuja by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA.
Babafemi reported that Mrs. Kehinde Ajisegiri, a 56-year-old widow and mother of four, was detained for attempting to smuggle 400 grams of cocaine into Makkah, Saudi Arabia, using her shoes as a disguise.
He said that the suspect, posing as a businesswoman engaged in the sale of clothing for both adults and children on Lagos Island, was apprehended on Sunday, November 13.
He claimed that this occurred when the suspect attempted to board a Qatar Airways flight that was bound for Saudi Arabia via Doha.
“Upon a critical examination of the pair of sandals she was wearing, two parcels of cocaine weighing 400 grams were recovered from them,” he said.
In a similar vein, Tayo Ayoade, a trader of tricycle components, was unsuccessful in his attempts to send 1kg of Rohypnol and Tramadol 225mg to Istanbul, Turkey, via Cairo aboard an Egypt Airline flight.
According to Babafemi, the suspect was detained on November 13 by NDLEA agents.
“He was at the airport to hand over the drugs hidden inside a bag of food items to an intending passenger, Idowu Ayoade, but was arrested,” he said.
On October 31, News Central reported that West African Nation Senegal seized 300 kilograms of cocaine. Those responsible for this catch are members of the commercial brigade of Kidira, which is subordinate to the Directorate of Customs Operations and the Regional Directorate of Customs for the South-East.
It was gathered that these economic troops stopped a truck that was headed toward Mali. The thorough examination of this vehicle allowed for the discovery of this significant quantity of hard drugs.
The 300 kg of cocaine was concealed inside the truck’s double-welded metal bottom. The driver and his apprentice were apprehended and brought into custody for the duration of the investigation following this revelation.
