The Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to six months in jail without an option of fine.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro handed down the judgment on Friday April 12.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday, April 4, filed six-count of money laundering and abuse of naira against the controversial cross-dresser.
On Friday, April 5, EFCC arraigned Bobrisky in court on a six-count charge ranging from Abuse of the Naira and Money laundering.
He pleaded guilty to the charge of Naira abuse.
The court, however, dismissed the money laundering charges but convicted him for Naira Abuse after he confessed to the crime.
Bobrisky who identified as “male” after the judge asked him of his gender, pleaded the court that he was not aware of the law of abusing the naira.
He added that he is a social media influencer with over five million followers.
Justice Awogboro told him that ignorance of the law was not an excuse for violating the law.
He said,” I know my Lord. My lord, I wish that you could give me a second chance to use my platform to inform and educate my followers about spraying money.
“I would do a video on my page and I would educate people about spraying money.
“I will not repeat it, my lord, I regret my actions, my lord.”
