Nigerian Football Legend, Finidi Appointed Enyimba Coach



Former Nigerian international, Finidi George has been appointed the head coach of one of the country’s most successful clubs, Enyimba International.

George’s appointment was announced by the club via its official website with the former Ajax winger expected to bring his exposure in Europe to bear when he takes charge next season.

The 62-cap former Super Eagle signed a two-year contract with the People’s Elephants who eight-time Nigerian champions. He is replacing Fatai Osho whose contract expired in August. He was part of the successful Super Eagles team of 1994 AFCON and also played a key role in Nigeria’s impressive outing at the World Cup in the same year. He’s part of a generation largely considered as the best ever in the history of Nigerian football. 

Finidi, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated former players starred for several teams in Europe, winning the Champions League in 1995 with Ajax and also performed greatly in Spanish club, Real Betis and RCD Mallorca. He also played for English side, Ipswich.

After putting pen to paper with the club, Finidi said; “I have to say it’s a great opportunity for the club to have this confidence in me. I want to thank the chairman, the members of the board, and the supporters for even thinking about me. On my own part, I will be here to just work and do the job. It’s never going to be easy but I’m here to work and make the team win.”

Finidi obtained his UEFA A Coaching License with Real Betis and has worked for the club in various capacities in the past.
