Nigeria: More Kidnapped Kogi Students Rescued

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Kogi State Government announced the rescue of more students kidnapped from the Confluence State University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Lokoja bringing the total number of rescued students to 20.

It however stated that the rescued students were severely injured

News Central reports that on Thursday, May 9, 2024, armed men invaded the Osara campus of the institution abducting an undisclosed number of students who were attending a tutorial class in preparation for their first-semester examination.

14 of the abducted students were rescued on Sunday after a shootout between the Nigerian police force and the kidnappers. 

Kingsley Fanwo, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information said, “The students were rescued safely by local hunters and other security agents, hours after the executive Governor of the state, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, visited the institution to assure parents of his commitment to rescuing the students.”

Fanwo said an additional six had been rescued and confirmed their safe return home.
