Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, sparked transfer rumours in the Premier League by threatening to sue his own team over a TikTok video that appeared to make fun of him.
The strange film was released after Osimhen assisted the Italian squad in winning its first league title in thirty years.
Osimhen helped Napoli immensely with 31 goals in all competitions, but he was the subject of an odd, since-deleted video that was posted to the Serie A team’s official TikTok account.
The Nigerian hitman expects an apology from the Italian champions, with the player and his management wanting the club to firmly distance themselves from the social media post.
Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, issued a statement on Tuesday night about the incident.
He wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “What happened today on Napoli’s official profile on the TikTok platform is not acceptable. A video mocking Victor was first made public and then, belatedly, deleted.
“A serious fact that causes very serious damage to the player and adds to the treatment that the boy is suffering in the last period between media trials and fake news.”
Calenda added: “We reserve the right to take legal action and any useful initiative to protect Victor”.
A few hours after Calenda’s remarks, Osimhen deleted virtually all Napoli-related images on his Instagram, including pictures of the Scudetto celebrations from the previous season.
Before re-following Napoli on Instagram, Osimhen had previously stopped following them.
Following the game, there appeared to be animosity between Osimhen and Rudi Garcia, the manager of Napoli.
With four minutes left in the scoreless draw, the 24-year-old was spotted berating Garcia as he was replaced.
The bizarre social media scrap comes after Osimhen, who reportedly captured the interest of Manchester United and Chelsea this summer, did not sign a new contract with the Italian team. Osimhen’s current deal runs through to the summer of 2025.
