Nigerian Government Appeals to Doctors to End Strike

Resident Doctors at ABUTH Suspend Warning Strike

The Nigerian Government has appealed to members of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to suspend their seven-day warning strike.
Dr Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Health, pleaded with the doctors on Thursday during a visit to the National Eye Centre in Kaduna.

Alausa said negotiations have begun to ensure their kidnapped colleague, Dr Ganiyat Popoola, is safe.

“We are on top of the matter and have been on talking terms with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, regarding the issue.
“I have spoken with the Commissioner of Police and everyone is working hard to see that she is released,” he said.

Alausa said he met with NARD’s leadership over the situation and convinced them to end the strike. He added that the kidnappers kept altering their demands, but the police is on top of the situation.

News Central reported that members of NARD embarked on a seven-day warning strike to demand the rescue of Dr Ganiyat Popoola, a Kaduna-based doctor.
Popoola was kidnapped in December 2023 and has spent nine months in the kidnapper’s den.
