The closed-door meeting between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Wednesday concluded with an agreement to resolve all contentious issues amicably.
Both parties also committed to initiating a communication process to prevent the union’s planned industrial actions.
The meeting was held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja and commenced at around 4:30 p.m.
The meeting, which lasted for more than two hours, was attended by the two ministers overseeing Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, Dr Yusuf Sununu, and other senior officials in the federal government’s team at the ministry.
After the meeting, the ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, who led the union’s team, informed reporters that the negotiation process had commenced and expressed hope that the federal government would adhere to the agreed points.
Regarding the two-week deadline set by the union, Osodeke stated that they would return to brief their members on the meeting’s details.
