Nigeria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has dispatched 25 trucks of fertiliser to farmers across Kogi State in north-central Nigeria. This initiative is part of the federal government’s efforts to enhance food production during this year’s wet season.
Mr. George Ogirima, Managing Director of the Kogi State Agricultural Development Project, highlighted that the fertiliser distribution will benefit farmers in all 21 local government areas of Kogi State. He believes this support will significantly improve agricultural yields.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo officially launched the distribution at the Kogi State Agricultural Development Project office in Lokoja on Saturday. He emphasised the government’s dedication to advancing the agricultural sector within the state.
Describing the event as a fulfilling moment, Governor Ododo stressed his commitment to ensuring that the fertiliser reaches only genuine farmers. He warned against the risks of diversion and political manipulation, promising to take stern action against any attempts to sabotage the distribution process.
Governor Ododo also noted agriculture’s potential to drive economic growth in Nigeria, citing the country’s vast land and water resources, coupled with a political will to bolster the sector. He announced that 50 per cent of the current fertiliser supply will be allocated to farmers in Ibaji and Bassa local government areas, recognising these regions as significant farming hubs.
The Governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ongoing support in addressing economic challenges through increased agricultural funding. He assured Kogi’s farming communities of his administration’s continued commitment to enhancing food production.
