Nigerian Government Inaugurates Committee for Oladipo Diya’s Funeral

The Nigerian government has established a State Funeral Committee for the late Oladipo Diya, the former Chief of General Staff. The responsibility of this committee, as stated by Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, is to meticulously plan a dignified burial ceremony for the esteemed statesman.

During the inauguration of the committee, Boss Mustapha, acting on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, emphasized the importance of ensuring a fitting farewell for the late statesman. Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office in the Office of the Secretary to the Government, represented the SGF and conveyed the message that the State Funeral Committee, in collaboration with the governments of Ogun and Lagos states, would be responsible for organizing an appropriate burial for General Oladipo Diya.

The Funeral Committee, chaired by Boss Mustapha, consists of members from various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). President Muhammadu Buhari has also authorized the formation of five sub-committees to facilitate the smooth implementation of the state funeral program for the late Chief of General Staff.

Ganiyu Hamzat, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, expressed the readiness of the Ogun State Government to partner with the Federal Government in providing a grand state funeral for the late General Oladipo Diya. He conveyed the State Government’s generous contribution of N50 million and the improvement of road infrastructure to facilitate movement to the funeral venue.

In response, Oyedamola Diya, the son of the former Chief of General Staff, expressed gratitude on behalf of the family to the Federal Government and the Ogun State Government for their support during their father’s passing and for organizing a fitting burial ceremony. He revealed that the Service of Songs and Night of Tribute would commence on Sunday, July 23, 2023, culminating in the final burial rites and interment on Saturday, July 29, 2023.
