The Federal Government promised on Tuesday, that the transfer of power from President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to President-elect Bola Tinubu will take place peacefully and smoothly.

The government further claimed to have finished refurbishing the offices of the President and Vice President-elect.

Mustapha, the Chairman of the Transition Committee, emphasised to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja that legal action would not prevent the handover ceremony from taking place.

He said, “The committee has been active, and the refurbishment of offices for the President and Vice-President elect has been completed.
“The facility at the Defence House is ready. Security personnel of the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Police Force have also been deployed to the President and Vice-President elect.
“Protocol officers have also been assigned to both the President-elect and Vice-President-elect from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Intelligence Agency.
“The transition process is on course, and all efforts are being made to ensure that it is smooth. On May 29, there would be a peaceful formal transfer of power to the new President.”

The chairman pointed out that it was the security subcommittee’s job to make sure the handover wasn’t interrupted.

He said, “All litigation, whether resolved or not, will not in any way stop the process. The President is not spending a day extra in office. The security committee’s job is to make sure that nothing happens to speed up the process of transitioning. Nigerians are very law-abiding people.

“There are avenues for whoever lost an election to pursue any legal inquiries they desire, but the process would go on without interruption. There wouldn’t be another constitutional crisis, we promise. The handover will occur on May 29,” he added.

As part of the transition, Mustapha added that the FG delegation to the World Bank’s Spring conference would include four members of the President-elect’s team.

Nonetheless, he disclosed that the president-elect had named Wale Edun and Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu to the transition committee.
