The Lagos State Government has commenced the clearing of shanties and unauthorised occupants from Ikoyi Towers.
Announcing via X, Tokunbo Wahab, the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, revealed that a collaborative effort between the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Special Task Force on Environmental Offences has initiated the eviction of illegal occupants and dismantling of shanties erected within the Ikoyi Towers premises following a 48-hour eviction notice.
He said, “The government’s issuance of relocation notices and enforcement actions aim to reclaim land and public facilities, which have been converted to personal use, to ensure public safety, enforce urban planning, and address the proliferation of illegal settlements and structures in Lagos State.”
He noted the discovery of a significant number of unregistered residents whose activities remained unverified within the premises. Describing their presence as a potential threat to the state, he stressed the necessity of the eviction operation.
