The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) held an in-person meeting on Wednesday night at the Forum’s Secretariat in Abuja.
Some minutes after 9:00 pm, fifteen governors, mostly from the All Progressives Congress (APC), were present.
The only opposition governors in attendance were Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, who was elected on the Labour Party (LP) platform.
The agenda for the meeting was not made available to journalists at the time of writing, but the governors had been facing tax reform bills for weeks.
Under the auspices of the National Economic Council (NEC), the 36 state governors have been among those who have fiercely opposed and criticised the new tax bills that the Tinubu administration has tabled.
The provisions of the proposals have also been categorically rejected by the 19 northern Nigerian governors, who have demanded that the National Assembly remove them from consideration.
