Nigerian Governors Hold Closed-Door Meeting Ahead of Planned Protest

Nigerian Governors Meet Over Planned Protest

Nigerian governors, under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), convened at the NGF secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday night.
The meeting was organised weeks after the Supreme Court granted financial autonomy to local government areas in Nigeria.

Of the 36 states, the governors who were physically present at the venue were Governors Lawal Dauda (Zamfara), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Alex Otti (Abia).
The governors of the states, Enugu and Borno, Peter Mbah and Babagana Zulum, respectively, were represented by their deputies.

The agenda of the meeting remains unknown as they did not brief anyone including the media after the meeting ended early on Thursday.

However, the governors are expected to have deliberated over the nationwide protest against bad governance scheduled for August 1.
