The Organised Labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), has vehemently rejected both the government’s proposed N48,000 minimum wage and the Organised Private Sector’s (OPS) proposed N54,000, dismissing them as “ridiculous offers.”
During the ongoing negotiations meeting, representatives of Organised Labour were visibly provoked by these offers and opted to walk out in protest.
This reaction stemmed from the disparity between the proposed amounts and the labour unions’ demand of N615,000 as the new minimum wage.
The Tripartite Committee on New National Minimum Wage reconvened on Wednesday, May 15 to address these issues.
A source from TUC expressed disappointment, stating, “Labour presented first and we stood on our N615,000 proposal after which the OPS presented N54,000. Later the government came and proposed N48,000.
“There was no iota of seriousness. There was no data to back it up and that was the moment we walked out. When they are ready to be serious, they will call us.”
The NLC has responded by calling for an emergency press briefing to address the wage disparity affecting workers across various sectors in the country.
This is a developing story…
