The Nigerian Military have foiled an ISWAP attack around the Maniok-Jakana axis along Maiduguri-Damaturu highway in Northeast Nigeria.

It was gathered that the assailants emerged from Timbuktu on three gun trucks and motorcycles to attack commuters and motorists.

The Military however disrupted the attack and engaged the insurgents with superior firepower and eventually overwhelmed them.

The insurgents fled and abandoned a cache of weapons and the victims abducted were rescued by the security operatives.

According to Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, troops from Operation Hadin Kai have killed 14 insurgents and arrested 15 others in the last two weeks.

The achievement followed military operations in Nigeria’s North-East region between May 19 and June 2.

On May 22, troops working with the Civilian Joint Task Force killed terrorists at Ndakaine, Jango, Sabah, Amdaga, Balazola, and Gobara in Borno’s Gwoza Local Government Area.

The hideouts of Boko Haram and the ISWAP insurgents in the area were leveled and cleared during the encounter.
