The Nigerian Navy is capable of producing ships that are up to international standards, according to Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS).
The Navy has long been involved in local shipbuilding and repairs, according to Admiral Ogalla, who was on a working visit to the Naval Shipyard in Port Harcourt over the weekend to examine ongoing operations.
He stated that at their Lagos dockyard, the Navy has constructed three regular warships and is now building two Civil Defence Boats.
He claimed that because of a lack of awareness and publicity, the public is unaware of the Navy’s extensive shipbuilding and ship maintenance efforts.
He pushed for more attention and awareness for the Navy’s Shipyard and Dockyard.
Admiral Ogalla also stated that individuals fly overseas to purchase ships because they are unaware that the Navy builds them, but that they are progressively resolving the issue.
“We are attempting to raise awareness since we are capable of building these ships locally. As you are aware, the Nigerian Navy has been building ships for a while. The shipyard and dockyard are being urged to engage in PR to increase their operations’ visibility.
“We don’t know why so many people travel overseas to purchase some of these things because of sea blindness,” the CNS stated.
In addition to inspecting the administration block, Ibom ferry, slipway, and sick bay that are now under construction, the Chief of Naval Staff also inspected three renovated boats, ten flat bottom asphalt bolts for Navy operations, and other items with senior naval officials.
