News Central can reliably confirm that renowned Nigerian poet and spoken word artiste, Oruz Kennedy, has been released from captivity. He was among the victims of a kidnapping incident that occurred in Kogi state when armed men attacked two buses loaded with commuters.
Oruz Kennedy was en route to Port Harcourt, Rivers state, at the time of the incident. He is also known as the organiser of the highly acclaimed spoken word poetry event, the ‘More Life Concert.’
Our source stated that the assailants released him a few hours ago, and he’s made contact with his family.
One of the leading voices in the Nigerian literary community, also confirmed it in a message, ‘Oruz has been released and on his way home. An official statement and communication shall be announced soon. Thank you, everyone!’
In a heartwarming show of solidarity, numerous members of the creative community came together to raise both their voices and funds for his release. Initially faced with a demand for N20 million in ransom, negotiations successfully reduced the amount to N5 million. Other victims in the incident are yet to be released.
