Police in Katsina State arrested fifteen men on Friday evening on suspicion of planning to disrupt the outcome of the 2023 general elections.
SP Gambo Isah, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, confirmed the arrest on Friday evening.
The men were apprehended in Katsina, and several computer laptops and applications allegedly belonging to a prominent political party were confiscated from them.
They are currently being detained at the command’s Criminal Investigation Department, and an investigation into the matter is already underway.
According to SP Isah, the police have invited experts to examine the confiscated items.
He said, “We arrested fifteen suspects with unspecified numbers of laptops and apps belonging to a political party. We have commenced investigation and we don’t want to jump the gun. We have already invited experts to conduct investigation on the items as we don’t want to jump the gun. We shall make public the outcome of the investigation.”
There are also restrictions on both human and vehicular movements throughout the state, with security personnel present at all entry and exit points. Despite these measures, the situation in Katsina State was reportedly peaceful on Saturday morning.
