The Police in Edo State, Nigeria have arrested and paraded six suspects over their alleged roles in the murder of a 21-year-old University of Benin (UNIBEN) student, Uwaila Omozua.
Uwaila was killed by some suspected rapists at a church in Benin City where she reportedly went to read at the night sometime in May.
Before her death, Omozua was a 100 level Microbiology student at the university.
The six were paraded on Wednesday by the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo.
One of the suspects, Collins Uligbe, from Agbor in Ika north-east local Government Area of Delta State, to newsmen during the parade disclosed that the deceased’s landlady, Mary Ade, paid them ₦1m to kill the undergraduate.
Collins, who said he attends the same church as the student, said that he was asked by the landlady to wipe Uwaila’s private part with a handkerchief so that she could use it for ritual purposes and prosper in her business.
The landlady has since denied these allegations.
Johnson gave the names of the other suspects as Nelson Ogbebor, Tina Samuel, another lady, Valentine Akato and Nosa Osabohien.
CP Johnson added that postmortem results confirmed that the victim was raped before she was murdered.
He assured the people of Edo State that the police will leave no stone unturned in unravelling the mystery behind the death of Uwaila.
