The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that unknown gunmen killed three persons in the Gowon Estate, Ipaja area of Lagos State. The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident on Thursday. According to Hundeyin, the incident happened at 11:35 pm on Wednesday.
Hundeyin further disclosed that the Gowon Estate Police Division received a distress call from the Naval Block of the estate informing them that some people were shot by unknown gunmen on 41 Road, Union Bank Block. In response, two patrol teams immediately moved to the scene. However, they were informed that the victims had already been taken to Igando General Hospital.
During investigations, the police recovered nine expended cartridges and a bunch of keys at the scene of the shooting. At Igando General Hospital, the police found the body of an unknown male, which was evacuated to Mainland General Hospital in Yaba for preservation and autopsy. Hundeyin revealed that further information provided by the police revealed that two male bodies had already been taken away by their families.
One survivor, Doba Ngoze, is currently receiving treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba. Hundeyin affirmed that an investigation into the case is already underway.
Residents have described the incident as a cause for concern and appealed to the police to ensure that investigations are carried out thoroughly to bring the perpetrators of the heinous act to book. They also want security agencies to improve their vigilance and work together with residents in their quest for peace and safety in the area.
