The Taraba State Police Command disclosed on Monday that 40 kidnapped victims were rescued in Yorro Local Government Area of the State, after a joint operation with some local hunters.

State Commissioner of Police David Iloyanomon said the hunters aided in the rescue operation because they were conversant with the terrain.

“We deployed another strategy of using the local hunters and vigilantes, who dislodged them, neutralised some, and rescued 40 victims, while police operatives at strategic locations arrested 10 suspects, who were fleeing the mountain,” he said.

Iloyanomon pointed out that the hostages, upon regaining their freedom, were transported to the police clinic in Jalingo for examination and necessary treatment.

He explained that the victims had been abducted from Dilla, Lanko, and Gampu communities in Yorro LGA, as well as Dekko and Kotsensi communities in Monkin B ward in Zing LGA.

During the presentation of the rescued victims to journalists, the CP disclosed that one of the hostages had suffered the gruesome act of having an eye plucked out by the kidnappers, while another, with a gunshot injury, was currently receiving medical attention in the hospital.

Additionally, he showcased 10 suspected kidnappers who had been apprehended by police operatives, believed to be attempting to flee from the mountainous area. Iloyanomon asserted the police’s commitment to reinforcing collaboration with local hunters and vigilantes to ensure the safety of residents.
